about

Brass Moustache is an independent film production collective based in London

We write and produce in house, and accept thematic commissions across the disciplines outlined above. Brass Moustache is comprised of professional producers, editors, directors and writers working and established at the highest levels of the UK creative media. We collaborate to write and produce unique perspectives on our world, both factual and fictitious; often conveying the space between the two.

background

Brass Moustache directors Mark Donne and Joe Morris first collaborated under commission to The Independent newspaper website, producing factual shorts, reflecting key unreported or under-exposed issues of the day and treating them in a new, counter intuitive way.
Each short film they produced was selected as the "Editor's Pick" on The Independent homepage. Joe and Mark have subsequently collaborated on "The Rime of the Modern Mariner", promotional music video and presently have several projects in development, including a new feature length documentary for a national television broadcaster, and a dramatic short for international festival and online release.
Mark has previously worked as a journalist and writer for The Guardian newspaper, The Independent newspaper and Sky News television outlet. Joe has worked as a director and editor of TV adverts and short films.

COLLECTIVE

Since established by Joe and Mark, numerous abundantly talented individuals have contributed to projects and formed the family. They include:

SHORTS

Our first dramatic short, "The Vandals" is presently in development and will go into production in September 2011. Further announcements and previews relating to the film will appear here.

feature

Our first feature length documentary "The Rime of the Modern Mariner" was released in spring 2010 to critical acclaim, and is presently touring national and international film festivals.
The film was the subject of a BBC1 cultural feature and was chosen as The Times newspaper Film of the Week when released. The film has also been in the official selections of various film festivals including SXSW Film Festival (Texas, USA), The East End Film Festival (London), Ghent Film Festival (Belgium), Cinecity Film Festival (UK), Mexico City Film Festival (Mexico) and remains attached to a programme of forthcoming international festivals.
The film has also received prestigious theatrical screenings in the BAFTA Arena of Latitude Festival (UK), The Royal Maritime Museum (UK), and The Museum of London (UK)

THE TIMES (FILM OF THE WEEK)

"The film evokes the waterside architecture, music and arcane language, set to a score that samples a creaking hull, hammering cargoes and engine room rhythms" Alex O Connell (Arts Editor)

BBC 1

"A fascinating and infuriating journey, from beginning to end" Matthew Wright

THE GUARDIAN

"Something of that rock'n'roll spirit has survived in Mark Donne's movie: a stylish essay that combines chinwags with East End sea dogs with a gonzo two-week adventure on the high seas with the crew of a Maersk cargo boat." Catherine Shoard (Film Editor)

THE EVENING STANDARD

BBC RADIO LONDON

"Esoteric, poetic, magical" Robert Elms (BBC Radio LDN)

music
